Résumé de la thèse

En faisant émerger des images spectrales dans une perspective critique, en déconstruisant les liens entre les images photographiques et leurs supports privilégiés, par un jeu de transfigurations plastiques, l’enjeu est de mettre en pratique ce que d’après Derrida l’on pourrait appeler une hantologie : il s’agit de mettre en question la croyance en une forme d’objectivité photographique, de rompre la relation évidente en apparence entre l’image en présence et le texte absent, le discours et les normes de présentation qui dirigent l’interprétation, pour que d’autres récits puissent naître, et, avec eux, d’autres relations, d’autres hiérarchies politiques, pour porter un regard plus juste sur le monde. Ce projet de libération des archives photographiques propose donc un double travail du regard : en exfiltrant les images des cadres d’interprétation qui leur sont imposés tout en jouant avec les normes de présentation de ces cadres pour les distancier, une critique politique de leurs usages devient possible par la pratique artistique au-delà d’une approche théorique classique.

By bringing out spectral images in a critical perspective while deconstructing the links between photographic images and their privileged media, through a game of plastic transfigurations, the challenge is to put into practice what Derrida could call a hauntology: i.e. a matter of questioning the belief in a form of photographic objectivity, of breaking the seemingly obvious relationship between the image in view and the absent text, the discourse and the standards of presentation which direct the interpretation, so that other stories can be born, and with them, other relationships, other political hierarchies, to take a fairer look at the world. This project of liberation of the photographic archives thus proposes a renewal of the way of watching: by exfiltrating the images of the frames of interpretation which are imposed on them while playing with the norms of presentation of these frames to distance them, a political criticism of their uses becomes possible through artistic practice beyond a classical theoretical approach.
