Les romans inédits de Mokhtari s’inscrivent dans le "nouveau souffle" du roman algérien en quête d’une nouvelle forme d’écriture en rupture, tant sur le plan thématique, formel, esthétique qu’idéologique. Pour dire l’Histoire, le romancier met en scène des personnages-témoins qui se souviennent de ce qu’ils ont vécu, qui opposent leur mémoire individuelle à l’Histoire officielle. En multipliant ses voix, en créant une véritable polyphonie, le romancier interroge le passé pour comprendre le présent, lutter contre l’amnésie et l’oubli.

Dans le corpus original d'Ami Chebili, d’inspiration autobiographique, le romancier n’hésite pas à jouer avec les formes de l’énonciation, usant du "je" ou du "il" dans Élégie du froid, du "tu" dans Mauvais sang. L’écriture devient un patchwork où se mélangent différents genres : poésie écrite ou orale, journal intime, carnet de bord¸ écriture journalistique, lettres, discours religieux, slogans, citations….

À l’Histoire collective, nationale, idéologique, le romancier oppose la mémoire individuelle de personnages choisis pour leur diversité et leur capacité à faire entendre la vérité plurielle de l’Algérie contemporaine. Barthes parlait d’une "morale de la forme", rappelant que le choix d’une forme engage une vision du monde et en appelle à la responsabilité de l’écrivain. Ali Chebili cherchera donc à montrer comment la polyphonie des personnages, l’hybridité générique et l’intertextualité systématique ouvrent sur un engagement humaniste.

Mokhtari's unpublished novels are part of the 'new lease of life' of the Algerian novel in search of a new form of writing that breaks new ground, thematically, formally, aesthetically and ideologically. In order to tell the story of history, the novelist uses characters who are witnesses, who remember what they experienced, who contrast their individual memories with official history. By multiplying his voices, creating a true polyphony, the novelist questions the past in order to understand the present, to fight against amnesia and oblivion.

In Ali Chebili's original, autobiographically inspired corpus, the novelist does not hesitate to play with forms of enunciation, using "I" or "he" in Élégie du froid, "you" in Mauvais sang. His writing becomes a patchwork of different genres: written or spoken poetry, diaries, logbooks, journalistic writing, letters, religious speeches, slogans, quotations...

To collective, national and ideological history, the novelist contrasts the individual memory of characters chosen for their diversity and their ability to convey the plural truth of contemporary Algeria. Barthes spoke of a "morality of form", reminding us that the choice of a form engages a vision of the world and calls on the writer's responsibility. Ali Chebili will therefore seek to show how the polyphony of characters, generic hybridity and systematic intertextuality open the way to a humanist commitment.
